A new Wegmans grocery store is one step closer to being built.
According to reporting by ChapelBoro.com, the demolition phase of the project has been completed. The location of the new store is a former Performance Auto Mall location along Fordham Boulevard.
The website writes that “[î]n the coming weeks, Chapel Hill Economic Development Officer Dwight Basset said, developers are expected to submit applications, receive the relevant permits and then begin construction.”
It continues quoting Basset saying he is hoping for an early 2021 opening.
The website explains that construction of the store would require road upgrades and “major changes to Fordham Boulevard near Eastowne Drive. According to the plan submitted by developers, the proposed multi-lane roadway would start on Fordham at the entrance to the State Employees Credit Union building adjacent to the Wegmans lot.”
