RXO, a leading tech-driven freight transportation broker, has chosen Charlotte for a significant expansion of its operations. The company will invest $13.7 million and create 216 new jobs over the next several years at its Ballantyne headquarters.

“This expansion marks a major milestone in our city’s economic growth,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “RXO’s investment will create high-quality jobs, foster innovation, and drive prosperity across the community. We are excited to see how this partnership will shape the future of Charlotte, further establishing it as a dynamic place to live and work.”

Founded as a public company in November 2022, RXO is headquartered in Charlotte and specializes in tech-enabled brokered transportation services.

“We are excited to deepen our roots in Charlotte,” said Drew Wilkerson, CEO of RXO. “With the city’s strong infrastructure and talented workforce, we are well-positioned to drive our growth and contribute to Charlotte’s economic success.”

Charlotte offers RXO an ideal location for its expansion, with access to major interstates, a robust rail network, an international airport, and a thriving economy. The city’s skilled workforce and pro-business environment are key factors in the company’s decision to expand its operations here.

“RXO’s continued commitment to Ballantyne and Charlotte is a clear reflection of the city’s business-friendly climate and economic vitality,” said John Barton, president of Northwood Office. “We are proud to support RXO’s growth and look forward to continuing our partnership.”

As part of its expansion, RXO will increase its workforce in Charlotte, adding 216 new jobs over the next three years. The average salary for these positions is expected to be $89,769 annually. This expansion will bring RXO’s total number of employees in Charlotte to 863, up from 647 currently.

“Creating and maintaining a pro-business environment is essential for keeping companies like RXO competitive and growing in Mecklenburg County,” said George Dunlap, chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. “This expansion is a win for both the company and our community.”

The expansion involved the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and the North Carolina General Assembly.
