Michael Baker Engineering Inc., a unit of Michael Baker International, has been awarded a four-year, $8.0 million contract by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Under the contact, Michael Baker will provide comprehensive construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for the $122.8 million Greensboro Western Outer Loop, according to a news release.

The 3.9-mile, six-lane, freeway provides critical links to anticipated high growth areas around Piedmont Triad International Airport and in Northern Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Greensboro Western Outer Loop project is part of The Greensboro Urban Loop program, DOT’s plan to build an urban loop around Greensboro to improve traffic flow within the city. The project includes construction of a single point urban interchange (SPUI), and eight bridges.

The company’s CEI services include surveying grade verification, field materials sampling and testing, documentation of pay quantities, claims avoidance, and technician level contract administration for construction.
