Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is set to break ground on a new $55.8 million aviation training center at its Cameron Campus in Colfax, five miles from Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The groundbreaking is expected in the second half of 2025.
The new 100,000-square-foot facility will include two connected buildings—one measuring 70,000 square feet and the other 30,000 square feet—and will increase GTCC’s aviation program capacity by 40%, accommodating more than 600 students.
Phase 1 is expected to open in January 2027, with an initial cost of $36.4 million funded by the State of North Carolina and Guilford County. The second phase will cost about $21.2 million, with funding efforts ongoing.
This expansion comes as the aviation industry experiences growth with the arrival of companies like Boom Supersonic and Marshall Aerospace, alongside established employers such as Honda Aircraft and HAECO Americas.
The new center will feature laboratory and training spaces, including areas for hands-on experience with aircraft, replacing the current Aviation II and Aviation III buildings located off Stagecoach Road near PTI.
