FAYETTEVILLE — Construction is advancing on the new Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine, with Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. nearing the final stages of its electrical installations.
The revolutionary 127,500-sq. ft. facility is on track to welcome its inaugural class of medical students this summer. The project relies heavily on North Carolina-based construction and design expertise, with Charlotte’s Rodgers Builders, Inc. leading the build as the general contractor. The project team also features Charlotte-based McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture serving as the architect, alongside Raleigh’s RMF Engineering, Inc. as the electrical engineer.
Extensive electrical scope
Griffin Electric’s Raleigh-Durham team is managing a comprehensive electrical package for the state-of-the-art facility. The scope of work encompasses:
- Installation of comprehensive lighting and lighting control systems;
- Management of the building’s electrical service and distribution;
- Installation of critical infrastructure, including an emergency generator; and
- Integration of a fire alarm system and on-site low-voltage conduit provisions.
A transformative community asset
The new School of Medicine is designed to feature cutting-edge technological advancements and amenities across its classrooms and conference rooms. Beyond the interior learning spaces, the campus will include a learning garden, a plaza, a courtyard, and a spacious parking lot designed to accommodate up to 300 staff members and students.
City leaders anticipate the new medical school will be a transformative development for the Fayetteville region. By establishing a local pipeline for medical education, the community hopes to more easily recruit and retain high-level physicians, ultimately elevating the standard of local medical care.
Operating in the electrical contracting industry since 1978, Griffin Electric employs nearly 1,500 individuals and maintains North Carolina regional offices in both Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham. The company was recently ranked 26th nationally on ENR’s 2025 list of the top 50 electrical contractors.
