Google Fiber has started constructing its gigabit fiber network in Charlotte and Raleigh.
Google is charging $70 a month for a symmetrical 1 Gbps connection with no additional fees. $130 a month provides the connection plus TV service. There is also an option for a free 5 Mbps tier with a $300 installation fee (which can be paid in instalments.
Google says on its Research Triangle Fiber website: “With our plan in place, we start the hard work of stringing and laying thousands of miles of brand new, state-of-the-art fiber optic cable. We will lay enough new fiber in the area to reach from here to Canada, and you will see our engineers and crews in the streets for a long time.”
