Contract awarded for Wake County road improvements

A $3 million contract has been awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation for construction on a portion of N.C. 231, from U.S. 64 Business to the Wake-Johnston County line and other roads in Wake County.

The contractor, Carolina Sunrock LLC, can start as soon as May and complete the project by late fall 2025.

The contract includes milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction to approximately 17 miles throughout the county, including sections of these roads:

  • Riley Hill Road from Rolesville Road to Lizard Lick Road
  • North Smithfield Road from U.S. 64 to Forestville Road
  • Old Battle Bridge Road from Tarboro Road to Leo Minor Lane
