Cleveland County residents will soon experience a smoother ride along several major and secondary roads, thanks to a $5.1 million contract awarded for road improvements. Asphalt Paving of Shelby Inc. has been awarded the contract to improve approximately 17.9 miles of roadway in the county.
The work will include milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction, aimed at improving the condition and safety of the roads. The sections of major routes slated for resurfacing include:
- N.C. 18 from N.C. 150/DeKalb Street to the U.S. 74/Dixon Boulevard overpass
- N.C. 216 from the Gaston County line to Linwood Road
In addition to these major roads, several secondary roads will also see improvements, including:
- Stage Coach Trail between N.C. 226 and New House Road
- Eastridge Road between Polkville and New House roads, and between Hallman Mill and Fallston roads
- Caleb Road between Hoey Church and Pleasant Hill Church roads
- El Bethel Road between Bethlehem Road and U.S. 74 Business
Work on the project is set to begin as early as March 17 and is expected to be completed by summer 2026. The improvements are part of an ongoing effort to enhance the road infrastructure in Cleveland County and provide a safer, more efficient driving experience for residents and visitors alike.
