Rocky Mount has approved a plan to transform the historic district, including redeveloping the Epstein building on North East Main Street.
The 8,791-sq. ft. building will be transformed into a mixed-use development with the ground floor converted into about 1,000 sq. ft. of commercial spaces and the upper floor will feature five market-rate apartment units.
The project has an estimated $1.3 million cost for the work and was designed by Union3Studio architect. Rocky Mount City Council approved incentives for Epstein Properties totalling $252,873.
According to County deed records, Epstein Properties purchased the building for $357,000 last year.
The Epstein Building was built in 1912 and originally housed a men’s clothing store and most recently a tavern.
