Carolinas AGC’s Double Payment/Lien Seminars continue in the coming weeks across the state following the first one held August 17 in Durham. Contractors involved in public or private construction work in North Carolina can attend the seminars to become familiar with new  legislation that takes effect next year.

Bill Downey of L.A. Downey & Son, Inc. said this about the seminars after attending the one in Durham:

“This presentation is a must because in today’s economic climate, it is important to protect cash flow for all elements of our industry. This new legislation, and a good understanding of how it works, will help insure that will be done. This presentation clearly gives all of us in the construction industry the pitfalls and advantages of the new laws and how they will affect how we do business in the future.”

Rob Barnhill of Barnhill Contracting Co. said the presentation last week provided excellent,  timely information. “Contractors, subs and suppliers need to fully understand the guidelines and implications of this legislation before they kick in next year.”

Click here to register for the upcoming seminars, from 10 am to 1 pm, including lunch: Greensboro on August 24, Charlotte on August 31, Asheville on Sept. 26. (Details still are being put together for a seminar planned for Wilmington on September 7.)

Last week, at the Triangle seminar, two Raleigh attorneys – Keith Coltrain with Wall, Templeton & Haldrup, PA, and Matt Bouchard with Lewis & Roberts, PLLC gave  detailed overviews of the double payment and lien legislation and answered many questions from attendees. In addition, Dave Simpson with Carolinas AGC gave a legislative overview of the legislation. Read More.
