McGraw-Hill Construction reports 74 percent of contractors are now using Building Information Modeling (BIM). The report also showed that BIM usage among architects, engineers, contractors and owners in North America is at 71 percent, compared to 49 percent in 2009 and 17 percent in 2007.

According to the report, nearly 40 percent of BIM users do more than 60 percent of their work in BIM and all BIM users reported increased business benefits, including better profits, more accurate documentation, less rework, reduced project duration, fewer claims and the ability to offer new services.

“This unique multi-year trend data demonstrates clearly that BIM is taking hold in the design and construction industry because it has proven business value,” says Stephen Jones, Senior Director at McGraw-Hill Construction and lead author of the research. The full results of the study will appear in The Business Value of BIM in North America SmartMarket Report, part of the continuing McGraw-Hill Construction SmartMarket Report series and will be released to the general public at the end of November 2012. It will be available at http://construction.com/market_research/default.asp.  Read More.
