The Avery County Commissioners approved a design plan for the construction of the new swimming pool.
The pool will be located on Shady Street in Newland on land across from the old Rock Gymnasium which also houses the Avery Parks and Recreation offices, High Country Press has reported.
The estimated cost is $2.66 million, with an additional $121,000.00 for an 888-sq. ft. community room. The swimming pool facility’s total estimated cost will be $2.78 million.
According to Rob Johnson of Boomerang Designs, the estimated schedule for the pool’s construction may start as early as mid-summer, depending on bid awards and the issue of a construction permit.
