Samet Corp Names New Executives

Samet Corp, Greensboro, has named Rick Davenport to be President of the company’s construction division. He replaces Ron Rothrock, who had been in that position since 1986. Rothrock moves to a new position, Executive Vice President of Business Development.

Frank L. Blum Promotions

Frank L. Blum Construction, a Winston-Salem based general contractor, announced that William L. Ball and Mark R. Dunnagan have become part of the company’s ownership group.

T.A. Loving Named Ferguson VP

Goldsboro-based T. A. Loving Company has named Bob Ferguson Vice President. 2010 marks T. A. Loving Company’s 85th anniversary in the construction industry. Specializing in bridge projects, the firm has expanded into institutional, industrial, educational and housing construction of all types.

TKTK Hires Wagstaff

Thomas, Knight, Trent, King and Company announced John H. Wagstaff, CPA has joined the accounting firm as a Shareholder. He will serve clients from the headquarters in Durham and the Roxboro office.

VHB Hires Angell as Program Manager

Joseph Angell was hired as program manager in the Raleigh office for Vanasse Hangen Brustlin’s U.S. Department of Defense services. The Watertown, MA based company specializes in transportation, land development and environmental services.

Woodcock Named President of Balfour Beatty’s Carolinas Division; Hambright Retires

Balfour Beatty Construction U.S. announced it has named John F. Woodcock President of the Carolinas Division. The company also announced that Robert B. Hambright will retire as chief executive officer of the company’s Southeast Division effective March 31. With more than 300 employees and offices in Charlotte, Raleigh and Greensboro, the Carolinas Division serves a diverse mix of private and public sector clients.

Smith Named Business Development Director for Hardin

Matt Smith has been named Director of Business Development for Hardin Construction’s Raleigh office. With offices in Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Raleigh and Austin, Hardin Construction provides general construction, construction management, renovation and design-build services. Tom Booth, Vice President and General Manager for Hardin’s Raleigh office, has been named to the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

R.W. Moore Promotes Sales and Service Managers

Raleigh-based R.W. Moore Equipment Company announced the promotion of Will Massengill as General Sales Manager. Massengill is replacing Alex Bullard who has been appointed as General Service Manager.

Skanska USA Building Promotes Fasth

Skanska USA Building Inc. named Ceclia Fasth Green Business Officer in its newly formed global unit for green business called Green Business. Skanska USA has NC offices in Durham, Raleigh and Charlotte.

Shelco Names Gardner VP

Winston-Salem based Shelco Inc., announced that Barry W. Gardner has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. The general contractor has other offices in Raleigh, Charlotte and Greenville, SC.

McDonald York Announces New Hires

McDonald York Building Company hired Kevin Brooks and Ben Buskirk as Project Managers. The firm provides a full range of general contracting and design-build services. The firm also recently named Mike Kriston Vice President. McDonald York is headquartered in Raleigh with offices also in Durham.

Gardner Named President of NC Home Builders

Lyle Gardner of Raleigh has been named president of the NC Home Builders Association. Gardner is founder and owner of two building companies, Spectrum Homes and Evergreen Construction Company.

Puckett Joins RDK Engineers Raleigh Durham Office

Shane Puckett joined the Raleigh Durham office of RDK Engineers  RDK is headquartered in Andover, MA, with additional offices in Boston and Amherst. Jason Lund was recently named Group Leader.

Women in Construction Week Celebrated

Women in Construction Week (WIC) will be celebrated March 7-13. WIC Week provides a unified time for more than 5,500 members of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to raise awareness of the opportunities the construction industry holds for potential employees and to highlight women as a visible, growing force in the industry. Samantha Hedgepath, ECS Limited, Greensboro, said the Piedmont Chapter of NAWIC will be hosting charitable work-day events an Award banquet, luncheons and hands-on workshops during the week.

Crawford Joins Stewart Engineering

Benjamin Crawford joined Stewart Engineering’s transportation department as Senior Roadway Engineer. Marisa Hepburn, Director of Human Resources at Stewart Engineering in Raleigh has earned her Professional in Human Resources certification.

Asefnia Appointed to NC Economic Development Board

Sepideh Asefnia, President of SEPI Engineering & Construction, Raleigh, has been appointed by Gov. Bev Perdue to the 2010 NC Economic Development Board. SEPI has a a corporate office in Raleigh and a branch office located in Charlotte.

BBH Design Hires Trussler

Jeff Trussler has joined BBH Design in the Research Triangle as a project architect.

McFarland Joins GR&S

Geo. Raper & Son Inc. hired Stephen McFarland. He will focus on commercial construction operations and management. The corporate and building division is located in Raleigh. The utility-water/sewer division is in Elizabeth City.

BJAC Hires Staff Professionals

Raleigh-based architectural firm, BJAC, hired Nancy Padgett as Marketing Director. Barbara Dokulil has joined the firm as an Interior Designer.  Michelle McNutt has become a registered architect at the firm. BJAC also has offices in Charlotte.

Freelon Group Names Associates

The Freelon Group named Erick Lankes a Senior Associate in the firm. Adam Brakenbury, Kevin Day and Kathryn Taylor were named Associates.  The Durham-based architectural firm offers specialized design expertise in the areas of museum/cultural center, higher education and science/technology facilities.

Gates Precast Announces Promotions

Gate Precast/Gate Concrete Products, a subsidiary of Gate Petroleum Co., named Hagen Lambert Senior Vice President of Operations at Gate Precast Co. Oxford. Brian Griffis, Southeast Regional Sales and Marketing Manager, was tapped to lead the newly reorganized Southeast sales and marketing team.

Aptcon Opens New Office in Wilmington

Aptcon, a specialized provider of construction management and construction services, announced it had opened a new regional office in Wilmington.  The address is 310 N. Front Street, Suite 4-181.
