Toyota has announced a plan to invest an additional $2.1 billion in its NC battery manufacturing plant at the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite to support future expansion. This brings total investment in Toyota North Carolina to $5.9 billion, the company announced last week.

The announcement is in addition to $1.29 billion announced in 2021. In total, the Japanese company will invest $3.8 billion at the site and create approximately 2,100 jobs.

The facility will be Toyota’s hub for developing and producing lithium-ion batteries needed for its expanding portfolio of electrified vehicles. Production at the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite plant is slated to begin in 2025 with six battery production lines, four for hybrid electric vehicles and two for BEVs.

The construction project, one of the country’s largest, is well underway, with Ames Construction completing site development. Dirt and concrete is being moved and poured on a nearly around-the-clock basis.

“The future is bright at Toyota North Carolina,” said Sean Suggs, president, Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina. “With this proactive infrastructure investment, we will be able to quickly support future expansion opportunities to meet growing customer need.”
