South Carolina hosting energy summit this week

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster will host policy summit on June 9, starting at 9 a.m., focused on preparing for the state’s future electric power generation needs that are necessary to meet continued economic and population growth,

The day-long summit held in Columbia at the USC Alumni Center will bring together top federal and state elected officials, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders for a program that presents “a unique opportunity to explore solutions to the complex challenges of meeting the energy needs of our rapidly growing and prosperous state”.

“I look forward to bringing together top federal and state elected officials, policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders for an energy summit this Friday to explore solutions to the complex challenges of meeting the energy needs of our rapidly growing and prosperous state,” McMaster wrote on Twitter.

Topics for panel presentations will include:

  • Preparing for Future Energy Needs: South Carolina’s energy production and economic development landscape.
  • What laws and incentives need to be passed in order for electric utilities to invest in new power generation?
  • Understanding the type and how much power utilities will need to meet future demand.
  • Exploring the future demand for increased power from manufacturers and businesses.
