A contractor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation will resume blasting operations related to a bridge replacement project on N.C. 105, and crews will haul the rock remnants for use on roads damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Crews from Wright Brothers Construction began mobilizing to the construction zone at the intersection of N.C. 105 and Broadstone Road on Tuesday. They will resume operations to replace the bridge on N.C. 105 over the Watauga River this week.

Over the coming weeks, crews will take rock from this worksite to stockpile it at a central location so other crews can use the material to rebuild slopes, shoulders and roads damaged by the hurricane.

Starting Thursday, the contractor will resume short closures of N.C. 105 for blasting operations. The contractor will briefly close a portion of N.C. 105 north of the river just long enough to execute blasting and remove debris from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Traffic impacts should be minimal during these durations.

Law enforcement officials will be flagging traffic on N.C. 105 to assist with safe transport of rock material from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
