Residents discuss the Southwest Bypass in Pitt County at a recent meeting.

Residents and business owners from across the Pitt County area were recently given the chance to talk about what they’d like to see happen along the new Southwest Bypass.

The bypass will begin at the US 264 just west of Greenville. The bypass will run the length of Greenville, Winterville and Ayden. The 12.6-mile, four-lane bypass will bring the opportunity for new development in Pitt County including commercial, industrial and residential opportunities, according to WITN.

Attendees at the information meeting were then given a chance to walk around and mark poster boards of the plans with green and red stickers to indicate which aspects of the plan they did and did not support.

Pitt County will take feedback and use it to help create a zoning and development plan that will project what the growth of the area will look like over the next 20 years. The recent meeting was the last one scheduled for this phase of construction on the bypass.
