Nominations open for UNC Charlotte 2023 Urban Design Awards

Nominations for UNC Charlotte’s 2023 Urban Design Awards are open until Aug. 25.

Also known to as the “Urbies,” this Urban Design Center-led awards program recognizes, quality urban design in Charlotte and encourages continued community discussion around what makes for unique and great places.

Nominations can be submitted through the online nomination form. Residents are encouraged to nominate their favorite walkable neighborhood, street, urban building or other public space. The People’s Choice Award for Great Urban Design, an exciting community-led category, is in its second year.

Projects can be nominated in the following categories:

  • Great New Development Near Transit.
  • Great Walkable Neighborhood.
  • Great New Life for an Old Place.
  • Great Public Space.
  • Great Placemaking.
  • Great Street.
  • Great Urban Architecture.
  • Great Urban Design Champion.
  • Great Neighborhood Champion.
  • Great Student Project.
  • Great Suburban Design.
  • People’s Choice Award for Great Urban Design.

A panel of 10 urban design experts will choose the best projects in each category based on nomination submissions. Winners will be announced at the Urban Design Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 19.
