North Carolina ranked fourth among state-level economic development groups based upon an index compiled by Site Selection magazine. Three of the top-ten non-state-level economic development groups were in North Carolina — the Davidson County Economic Development Commission, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and the Charlotte Regional Partnership.
The Business Journal reports the new Caterpillar plant under construction in Winston-Salem received an honorable mention in the magazine’s “Top North American Deals of 2010” list, which appears in Site Selection’s May issue.
The $426 million plant expected to employ 392 once Caterpillar begins work manufacturing mining equipment axles, finished out of the top-ten list, which included five projects topping the billion-dollar mark. The most expensive was the $7billion Samsung/KEPCO consortium In Ontario, which will build and operate wind and solar power clusters over the next 20 years. Read More.
