Wilmington City Council approved $1.4 million for the nCino Sports Complex’s construction and contract changes to meet the soil cover requirements for the site’s south fields.

According to a staff report, the contractor encountered grading challenges that required landfill waste removal and additional soil import to achieve the soil cover depth required by NCDEQ.

Approval of an ordinance ensures the contractor could meet the spring 2024 sod installation timing.

Construction of the complex started in January 2023, and is approximately 50 percent complete, with a substantial completion expected in fall 2024.

The project was approved as part of the 2016 Parks Bond, and nCino signed on as the naming sponsor for the complex in 2021.

The construction of the 11-field complex, which originally was estimated to cost $16.9 million, will include a turf field, and five fields with stadium lights.
