National Safety Week for the construction industry will be observed Sept. 14 through 18.

More than 40 national and global construction firms started the Safety Week in 2014 and participation in the week-long observance has steadily grown each year, Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC) says in a statement.

The national Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America “is the primary sponsor for this national event and Carolinas AGC is encouraging all its members to participate,” the statement says.

The Safety Week mission is to:

  • Thank workers for supporting safety and recognizing their efforts to be injury free;
  • Increase awareness of the importance of being committed to safety, every day;
  • Encouraging everyone to share best practices and to work together to strengthen the industry’s safety culture; and
  • Conducting on-site safety awareness activities to support education,
“To accomplish this mission a wide range of resources have been developed and are free for all construction companies to use in the planning and implementation of company events and activities,” CAGC says.
Readers can download these resources and begin planning company activities. “There are suggestions for each day of the week but companies may plan their own specific events.”
“CAGC will continue to promote National Safety Week and will recognize members who hold employee activities through News Break articles and other social media channels. Member firms are encouraged to send information and photos documenting their activities.
“As CAGC celebrates its 100 Anniversary and is challenging its members to conduct 100 acts of service, participating in this observance may be one of the most important service projects the industry conducts this year.”
