Construction will start this month on the I-85 North Bridge project in Charlotte. The city awarded a contract to Dane Construction, LLC.
The project includes construction of a new two-lane street between Research Drive and J.W. Clay Boulevard in Charlotte’s northeast corridor.
Construction will include two bridges: one crossing Doby Creek and one spanning I-85. The project will also realign the intersection of Research Drive and David Taylor Drive to provide more efficient travel through the intersection.
Both bridges will connect University City’s residential, retail, and educational centers on the east side of I-85 to University Research Park’s business and employment centers on the west side.
The project will provide an alternative route to both the W.T. Harris Boulevard and Mallard Creek Church Road interchanges with I-85.
