More than 1,000 students attended the WNC Construction Career Day on Oct. 15 at the Haywood County Fairgrounds to learn more about the industry.
WLOS-TV quoted construction executives with Vannoy Construction who say, since the recession, jobs in construction-related fields have taken a hit and had trouble bouncing back.
Industry leaders explained to students the opportunities available in the field that may have been overlooked, with a diversity of trades at the day-long event.
School systems from Western North Carolina were invited, as well as, all local community colleges and universities. More than 10 public school systems in Western North Carolina participated in the event.
