Charlotte Water has started construction on the Stowe Regional Water Resource Recovery Facility, a $52-million project expected to be completed in 2026.
Crowder/Garney JV will serve as the PDB team and Hazen as the engineer for this project. The project will replace two aging water treatment plants and will serve residents in northwestern Mecklenburg County, as well as the cities of Belmont and Mount Holly in Gaston County.
The Stowe Regional facility will increase wastewater treatment capacity (25 million gallons per day) and reduce the distance waste travels to the treatment site. It will also connect the two county’s systems to each other through wastewater pipelines under the Catawba River.
It’s one of the largest construction projects in the agency’s history and will be constructed on a 90-acre site designed to preserve the natural environment with walking trails and partnerships with local schools.
