The City of Charleston is moving forward with its plan to improve West Ashley by demolishing the old, abandoned Ryan’s Steakhouse on St. Andrews Blvd. This project is a result of a partnership between the city and Gramling Brothers, a local Charleston developer.
The demolition is part of a larger effort to make West Ashley safer and more welcoming. Like the successful changes made on Sumar Street, this project will help bring new opportunities and amenities to the area.
Mayor William Cogswell shared his excitement, saying, “This is a major step forward for revitalizing West Ashley. Residents can look forward to safer neighborhoods and more opportunities as we keep investing in this part of Charleston.”
The Ryan’s Steakhouse building had been empty for years, becoming a hotspot for crime and an eyesore. By working with Gramling Brothers, the city is taking action to improve safety and clean up the area.
“This demolition is a huge win for West Ashley,” said City Councilmember William Tinkler. “By teaming up with Gramling Brothers, we are getting rid of a problem and creating space for something better. This is just the start, and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
Demolition began on Monday, February 24, and the city and Gramling Brothers are working quickly to clear the site. The goal is to turn the area into a place that will benefit the community and attract new investment to help the area grow.
