The City of Charleston hosted a groundbreaking recently to mark the start of the final phase of the Huger Street and King Street Pump Station.
Project partners include Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Engineering, SJ Hamill Construction, The Charleston Housing Authority, and the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority.
Construction is expected to last about 18 months.
Phase 2 of the Huger Street and King Street Drainage Improvements involves the construction of a stormwater storage feature that will include a new pump station. The pump station is designed to provide additional capacity to the existing drainage system by relieving the existing gravity system currently in place during significant storm events.
It is anticipated that the pump station will be able to increase flow out of the intersection by 70,000 gallons per minute and increase the storage capacity.
