As construction continues on the Sanford City Hall Annex, Edifice Construction showcased progress with a steel beam signing.

In a LinkedIn post, Edifice Construction said the mayor, city council members and city staff signed a structural steel beam that will become part of the building’s framework.

The new facility will consolidate several customer service functions, including bill payment, zoning and building inspections intake, and engineering services. It will also include a bridge connector linking the new annex to the existing City Hall building.

According to project details shared by the contractor, the approximately 33,500-square-foot building will open with about 29,000 square feet of finished space, while 4,200 square feet will be reserved as shell space for future expansion.

The first floor will house public-facing services, with a dedicated ground-level entrance for customer access.

Beyond municipal offices, the project includes a significant public amenity component. Plans call for an on-site linear park and greenspace, a half-mile greenway with a multi-use path, and community gathering spaces. The site will also feature a splash pad with restroom and pump and filtration building, shaded seating areas, new landscaping around the Armed Forces Memorial, wayfinding signage, and a digital event screen.

Additional infrastructure improvements include LED lighting upgrades, expanded parking near the main entrance, and two EV charging stations. Existing parking will remain in place.

Design work for the project was completed by ADW Architects. The guaranteed maximum price for the project is $27.7 million, funded through utility and general fund bonds issued in October 2025.

Construction is part of the city’s broader effort to expand municipal services while adding public recreation and gathering space for the growing Sanford community.
