$144 million permit issued as Amazon distribution center in Charlotte is built on formerly residential land

A project to build a massive Amazon distribution center in Charlotte was issued a $144 million building permit on Jan. 24. Charlotte Business Journal reported in October that $211.6 million in construction permits had been issued for the project.

According to Mecklenburg County building permit data, Georgia-based The Conlan Company is constructing the 855,000 sq. ft. structure at 8149 Todd Rd.

Key subtrades include: ElectricalWhisonant Electrical Serv. LLC; mechanicalMechanical Contr. Inc.; and plumbingPrecision Plumbing.

The site near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, was rezoned in 2018 from residential to industrial — allowing the structure on to be built on land that had formerly included a single family home.
