WakeMed celebrated the groundbreaking of its new whole-person health campus in Garner, a major step toward expanding mental health and acute care services in the region.

The 53-acre campus will feature a 150-bed mental health and well-being hospital alongside a 45-bed acute care hospital. Patients will have access to a 24/7 emergency department, diagnostic services, in-patient and outpatient care, operating and procedural rooms, and art and music therapy programs designed to support holistic healing.

The site is located near the intersection of White Oak Road and Timber Drive East in Garner. It will be an integral part of a 220-acre mixed-use district focused on innovation and wellness, which is being planned by the Town of Garner and a developer.

“We are bringing transformative care to our community with this unique campus,” said Donald Gintzig, president and CEO of WakeMed. “This project sets a new standard in mental health care by providing a holistic environment that breaks down barriers to care, reduces stigma, and provides hope for those in need of mental health services.”

Funding for the campus comes from multiple sources, including grants from Wake County and support from the WakeMed Foundation.

WakeMed’s new campus is part of a broader effort to meet the growing demand for behavioral health services in North Carolina, providing a modern, patient-focused environment designed to treat both physical and mental health needs under one roof.
