Construction on permeable pavement retrofits in the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Randall parking lot began this month, coordinated by North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF) and UNCW.
The project is part of an EPA 319 Grant awarded to NCCF, in partnership with the City of Wilmington’s Heal Our Waterways Program and UNCW, to improve water quality in Bradley Creek.
The project is one of many on the UNCW campus focused on implementing a local Watershed Restoration Plan that was adopted in 2007 and serves as a roadmap for reducing the volume of polluted stormwater runoff in the Bradley and Hewletts Creek watersheds.
The NCCF, UNCW and the Wilmington Heal Our Waterways Program are working with Coastal Stormwater Services Inc. and DiMaio Concrete to install the paving.
When completed, the new permeable pavement will infiltrate and treat approximately 14,807 gallons of stormwater runoff each time it rains.
