Owner plans to transform Judson Mill into urban, mixed-use community

An urban community, which includes more than 200 apartment units and 300,000 sq. ft. of office and light industrial space, is set for development on the Judson Mill site as revealed by its owner, North Carolina developer Kenneth Reiter.

Built on 36.2 acres of land at 701 Easley Bridge Rd., the site is a mile west of Greenville, next to a Judson community of 1,100 homes. It includes existing structures with an 800,000 sq. ft. building considered the most notable among all. According to a November 2016 county document, Reiter had previously planned to convert about half of it into residential spaces.

Although the development is only minutes away from downtown Greenville, spaces dedicated for leisure and dining will be opened on site. A new rendering released Nov. 7 revealed shopping amenities and an outdoor dining area.

Judson Mill’s overhaul will be led by Belmont Sayre, Reiter’s firm known for development of mixed-use investments in urban areas, and adaptation of unsustainable or historic buildings for reuse. Joining them as project partner is Three Corners Development, an Illinois-based firm that specializes in large-scale mixed developments.

“It’s a great community and one we really wanted to be a part of, so when the opportunity to redevelop Judson was brought to us, we jumped on it,” Reiter said.

Upon completion in mid 2019, the new community is expected to add $75 million to the local tax base and provide 100 jobs.
