Construction is underway on a 16,000‑plus‑sq. ft. public safety campus in northern Berkeley County, SC, a project designed to improve emergency‑service coverage and reduce response times across the region. The $5.8 million facility will house the North Berkeley Fire District, along with substations for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and local EMS.
The campus will also serve as a backup 911 center and is planned to include a helicopter pad and boat support to respond to emergencies on nearby waterways such as Lake Moultrie and the Santee River. By co‑locating multiple services under one roof, the facility is expected to improve coordination among first responders and allow for faster response to rural and lakeside communities.
County officials say the campus is expected to open in about a year. Leaders described the facility as “a game changer” for northern Berkeley County, providing long‑awaited improvements to fire, EMS, and law‑enforcement response in the area.
