LISC Charlotte has launched a Real Estate Developer Incubator (REDi) training program aimed at emerging commercial developers. This initiative comes at a time when commercial development opportunities are increasing in the corridors—six designated areas by the City of Charlotte intended to enhance community growth for residents and businesses.
“We could not be more excited for their support to get this initiative off the ground,” Caldwell said. “REDi will be offered at no cost, ensuring that aspiring developerscan participate in the expanding market,” said Ralphine Caldwell, executive director of LISC Charlotte, highlighting the collaboration with the City of Charlotte and support from Wells Fargo, which provided $300,000 in grant funding.
The REDi program will provide training and resources to help developers leverage capital for their businesses, specifically targeting those interested in commercial projects within the Corridors of Opportunity.
Emerging developers are invited to attend a REDi informational webinar on Friday, Nov. 8, to learn more about the program. Applications are currently open until Nov. 21, with the first cohort set to begin in January 2025. Firms located in or planning projects within the Corridors of Opportunity will receive priority for participation. Interested applicants can find more information and apply through the LISC Charlotte REDi Training page.
Erin Gillespie, interim executive manager of the Corridors of Opportunity, called the launch an “exciting milestone,” emphasizing the program’s goal to empower local business owners.
Participants in the program will benefit from a cohort-based curriculum that includes technical assistance, coaching, and access to funding opportunities, aimed at reducing barriers to market entry and enhancing competitiveness as Charlotte’s development pipeline grows.
