Hampton Lumber, a family-owned producer of sustainable building materials, is planning to invest $225 million in a new sawmill in Allendale County — the company’s first East Coast operation.
The 375,000-square-foot facility will be built at the intersection of Highway 321 and Barker Mill Pond Road in Fairfax. It is expected to be completed by 2027 and will specialize in manufacturing Southern Yellow Pine framing lumber.
Headquartered in Oregon, Hampton Lumber operates nine sawmills across Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Canada. The company markets and sells wood products globally, using lumber sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The investment is expected to create at least 125 new jobs in the region. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits to support the project.
Company officials said community and state support played a key role in the decision to choose Allendale County.
State leaders praised the announcement, highlighting the project’s contribution to South Carolina’s forestry and agribusiness industries, particularly in rural areas.
