In the first six months of 2023, the City of Greensboro rezoned 573 acres more than it did during all of 2022. Forty-two percent of the land rezoned from January to June is intended for industrial use.

Figures are from the Planning Department’s mid-year growth and development figures. Check out this infographic called Growing Greensboro 2023-Mid-Year.

In the first six months of 2023:

  • The number of acres annexed and rezoned in Greensboro nearly equals the number from 2021.
  • 2,482 housing units are planned on 887 acres annexed or rezoned from January to June this year.
  • Through annexations and rezonings, there are 2,185 potential multi-family housing units for intended use and 297 potential single-family units.

The potential number of housing units that were approved through rezonings and
annexations are spread across the city. Approximately 2,482 units are planned on 887 acres.

“Greensboro is continuing its strong growth and so far we don’t see evidence of that growth cooling,” says Sue Schwartz, director of the Planning Department.
