Concord-based Green Street Cottages has begun phase one in its plan to build 500 energy efficient homes in the development known as The Villages at Cramerton Mills.

Phase one will include 64 three and four-bedroom homes described as 65 percent more energy efficient than standard builds, with the option for the addition of a solar energy system that could offset all of the electric power to the home. It is reported that the homes will be certified through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Homes program.

Charlotte Business Journal quotes Green Street Cottages’ Nick Parker as saying: “This is a rare opportunity for homebuyers to purchase an energy efficient home in a walkable environment surrounded by some of the best outdoor amenities in the region.”

It has been reported that Parker is partnering with Bowman Development Group of Huntersville on the mixed-use development that will include apartments, restaurants, and retail and office space.
