Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. says it is providing installation work on the in-progress Spartan Village, a 198,805-sq. ft. mixed-use development in Greensboro, NC expected to open by August. The state construction project will add four new, four-story residence halls designed for upperclassmen and graduate students at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Barton Malow Company/R.J. Leeper Construction, a joint venture out of Charlotte is overseeing construction of the project, while Little Diversified Architectural Consulting of Durham and Sigma Engineered Solutions, PC of Morrisville are serving as the architect and electrical engineer, respectively.

Upon completion, the new residence halls will feature 173 units of apartment-style dorm room space, while 26,000 sq. ft. of total retail space will be located on the ground floors of the buildings. Five restaurants, a grocery store, bike shop, hair salon, and book store are among the expected tenants of the retail space, which will be open to students and the general public.

Griffin Electric will be installing two 150 kW standby generators and two 4000-amp services at 120/208 volts that will serve the four residence buildings and ten retail spaces. The Griffin team will also be responsible for the installation of raceway for tele/data, security systems, and fire alarm systems for the facility.
