Charlotte based Edifice, Inc. recently relocated its offices into a 20,000 sq. ft. space at 4111 South Boulevard that formerly acted as two aircraft hangars, a crane rental company and a boxing centre.

The exterior for the general contractor’s new space has been designed by Axiom Architecture, while the interior was designed by Redline Design Group. Dragonfly Studios provided interior reclaimed wood details.

An initial announcement about the redesign said the renovation would call for the removal of existing exterior walls and the installation of a translucent wall system which would bring natural light into the space.

The street address was also incorporated into the design. “4111” will be formed with structural steel tube columns that support the new entrance, topped with “South” in freestanding dimensional letters, all highlighted by an artful backdrop of multi-colored jewel-toned glass.

Interior features were to include open work areas, exposed trusses, reclaimed wood, exposed concrete floors, ceramic tile and high-end glass.

Relocated from its original location in 1955, Charlotte Business Journal reports the repurposed building now houses 45 staff with room to grow. “I started the process of looking for a building within a mile radius of where I was on Morehead Street, but there was nothing available. This building is about two miles from our old location,” the paper quotes Eric Laster, CEO and president of Edifice as saying. “I happened to find this building before it went on the market. I walked in for the first time and said, ‘Yeah, I can use this.’”
