A major road improvement project will begin this fall in Guilford County after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $68 million contract to Blythe Construction Inc.
The project will widen nearly 4.5 miles of Johnson Street and Sandy Ridge Road from Skeet Club Road to Interstate 40, expanding the roadway from two lanes to four.
The corridor is a key route between High Point and Greensboro, providing access to the Piedmont Triad International Airport and the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. Officials said the additional lanes are expected to ease congestion, reduce delays and improve overall traffic flow.
Improvements also include a bike lane, multi-use path, sidewalk, grading, drainage upgrades, paving and new traffic signals.
Construction can begin Oct. 27, and the project is expected to be substantially complete, with all lanes open by fall 2029.
