The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas says that Bill Caldwell of Walldrop Mechanical Services has been named as interim president and CEO to lead the association.

The search committee decided to select Caldwell on a temporary basis because a candidate selected by the committee decided not to accept the offer due to family reasons. The originally anticipated candidate initially gave a positive response to the opportunity, according to a statement issued by the association.

“After thoughtful consideration, the board of directors decided that our organization would be best served if we could find someone who could fill the top executive role and lead the organization on an interim basis until a final selection is made for a new president and CEO,” ABC of the Carolinas stated.

Caldwell has been active in the association since bringing his firm into it in 2005. He has held various leadership roles — serving as the Upstate South Carolina  council chairman for two years and sitting on the chapter’s board of directors for nine years (2007-2015), including a term as chairman of the board in 2011.

“The entire board of directors is very appreciative of Bill’s willingness to take on this significant assignment concurrent with his role as Waldrop’s chairman and CEO. The board’s expectation is for Bill to lead our organization, on a part-time basis, through the hiring and transition of a new ABC of the Carolinas president and CEO,” the association said in the statement.
