North Carolina AIA Honors Extraordinary Design Achievements

North Carolina Architects were recognized for exceptional design expertise at the 2013 AIA NC Design and Chapter Awards dinner and ceremony on the deck of the historic battleship USS North Carolina in Wilmington. Award recipients included:

The 2013 Design Award Unbuilt Merit winners were Global Dynamics Laboratory – 2, O’brien/Atkins Associates and Brown Assembly and Dining Hall Pavilion, Andre Johnson, AIA, Architect.

Winners of the 2013 Design Merit Award were Square Parking Deck, Clark Nexsen;  Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts, Szostak Design; LORD Corporation | Phase 1 Office Building, The Freelon Group;  United Therapeutics Corporation, Frank Harmon Architect; Western Carolina University Health and Human Sciences, Clark Nexsen, and Live Oak Bank Headquarters, LS3P Associates, Ltd.

The 2013 Honor Design Award winners were the UNC Coastal Studies Institute Research Building by Clark Nexsen and the Paul Hayden Duesing Building, Pendland Letterpress and Printmaking Studio by Cannon Architects.

The AIA NC’s Tower Award, which recognizes “well-designed projects…that exemplify historic preservation and adaptive reuse in renovation, restoration or rehabilitation of a historic structure,” was bestowed to Frank Harmon Architect PA for First Presbyterian Church, in downtown Raleigh.

The AIA NC’s COTE (Committee On The Environment) Award recognized the thoroughly “green” AIA NC Center for Architecture & Design, also designed by Frank Harmon Architect PA, in downtown Raleigh.

The AIA North Carolina also presented Residential Design Awards to honor noteworthy residential architects and Chapter Awards.  Read More.
