Skanska USA Breaks Ground on $45 million

Wake Technical Community College Project

Raleigh, N.C. (April 15, 2014) – Skanska USA broke ground today on new construction of a classroom building, a regional utility plant, parking deck and two pedestrian bridges on the Northern Wake Campus at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC.

“We’re happy to embark on this project and begin this new partnership with Wake Tech,” said Skanska project executive Mark Collins. “The project will have a positive impact on this campus, and we’re excited to be a part of these enhancements every step of the way.”

Skanska will construct an 89,000-square-foot four-story classroom building, a 9,000-square-foot regional plant, a 782-space parking deck and two pedestrian bridges through the Neuse River banks on the Northern Wake Campus. The building will feature general purpose classrooms as well as a large interactive common space.

Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott said that the project will allow the college to serve more students as demand continues to grow.

“It will also demonstrate Wake Tech’s ongoing commitment to sustainable, environmentally-responsible growth. All buildings will be constructed to meet the highest of standards of energy efficiency and sustainability,” said Scott.

Working with Virginia-based architect Clark Nexsen, Skanska will seek LEED Silver certification for the project. Skanska expects to complete the project in July 2015.
