The town council on Oak Island decided to extend a moratorium on the construction of large houses until June 16, reports The Associated Press.
According to town officials, more information is needed about the impact on sewer service for homes with more than six bedrooms before changing the ban.
Public Works Director David Kelly said an expert will meet with the council next month to answer sewer questions.
