Balfour Beatty named construction manager for university’s renovation project

Balfour Beatty Construction was selected as the construction manager at-risk for renovations to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s 100,135-sq. ft., high-rise Holshouser residence hall located in the South Village area of campus.

Holshouser Hall was originally constructed in 1973.

Balfour Beatty Construction will perform renovations to the 11-floor, 202-room residence hall including upgrades to the elevator equipment, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, full window replacements, a brick clad façade on the exterior of the building, as well as new walkways and patios.

Holshouser Hall, which will features single and double rooms, will also include meeting rooms, lounge areas, and two resident advisor apartments. The scope of work also includes significant asbestos abatement and demolition work.

The design team includes Clark, Nexsen, Owen, Barbieri& Gibson, P.C. with civil engineering services provided by Stewart Engineering.

With a construction start date targeted for May 2014, the university residence hall project is expected to be turned over for student occupancy in the summer of 2015.
